El PillBo

Good ol' Joe Conason shines some light in the dark recesses of Limbaugh's brain.

I don't yet know if I agree with those who say give 'em enough rope...these are dangerous people with an enormous stockpile of hate for the left.

Anyhoo, their Rovian backs are most certainly against the wall and that's a good thing.

Lance Mannion

Here's another tee-riffic posting by Mr. Mannion.

Look, I know that I've vowed to move on and look towards the future as it relates to American politics, but there is no avoiding the historical depth of the damage done. Lance captures who GW Bush is, and has always been. May we all grow and change as he was never able to do.

Little Boots

Wikipedia reminds us that today is the anniversary of the end to the rule of that famous knucklehead, Caligula.

There are definitely lessons to be learned in his story...

Rudie and me

The Rude Pundit is still as rude as ever. He and I feel exactly the same towards the previous administration and their dwindling herd of supporters. No. Quarter. Given.

But, man, is he nasty...

All the colors of the 'bow, man

I was noodling about on the tubes and found a page of cartograms that more accurately reflect the "blue" versus "red" state conflict. Tres cool.

Double Dip

The dean of the blogs weighs in on yesterday's speechifying.

And The Rude One gives his first hand report from The Mall.

Mea Culpa

And in the "my bad" department, here's a Quality Assurance update from the Democratic Underground...

Date: January 20, 2009

Subject: An apology for our 2001-2008 interruption in service

Dear World:

We, the United States of America, your top quality supplier of the ideals
of liberty and democracy, would like to apologize for our 2001-2008
interruption in service. The technical fault that led to this eight-year
service outage has been located, and the software responsible was replaced
November 4.

Early tests of the newly installed program indicate that we are now
operating correctly, and we expect it to be fully functional on January 20.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the outage. We look forward to
resuming full service and hope to improve in years to come.

We thank you for your patience and understanding,

Sincerely,

THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Juan Cole

For millions, there is a vastly deeper affect on their lives due to the election of President Obama. It's not that I certainly can't imagine what this sea change perspective feels like, but as a white man, I cannot fully appreciate what the struggle of having been born black in this country really means.

Dr. Cole reminds everyone of its depth.

Say it loud, say it proud

Steven Weber gives a shout out to the righteousness of eight years of anger.

Get out of the way, Fox News, Neo Cons, El Rushbo and the rest; you're blindingly irrelevant for the next several years. As for you fellow citizens who've embraced the vision of the past two terms of misrule, engage yourselves properly or shut up and leave.

Me so Happy

A glorious day. I'm reborn at 12:40 this afternoon. God Bless America.

Inauguration

I'll provide updates from the television as best I can today for those unfortunate enough to not be able watch much of the day.

Delicious shots just now of Cheney being wheeled out to the car with a very smiley Joe Biden stepping briskly behind him.

What a metaphor for his last day.

Oh, and you'll notice to your right that I've removed my Bush's last day countdown clock this morning. That felt good.

Generalissimo BushCo says farewell

Ted Rall has a touch of nostalgia. I do too...in a way. A bigger fool will never be missed.

January 20th, 2009

There's obviously tons of observatory and opinion pieces on what tomorrow brings for this country. I'll try ferret out some of the better ones from the ether if you don't mind.

Oh...hold it a tic, here's one.

Obamasize

Although you rabid internetters may have already found this out on the tubes, Mr. B. sent me this link from Paste magazine where you can upload a photo and create your own "Hope" poster.

I'm fond of this one I found in the gallery, but feel free to make a special one in case you're not into the whole "brevity" thing....

Frum vs.Us

Canadian dillweed, David Frum, has created an electronic off-shore safe haven for the losing team for the foreseeable future.

While perhaps earning a C+ for trying to bring the right wing back to some semblance of sanity, his failing grades from the past few semesters far out way his feigned attempts at his newly birthed humility. He and Richard Perle were nearly entirely to blame for the lead up to invading Iraq in 2003. Go ahead and check out his pedigree at AEI if'n you wanna.

Suck on it, Dave.

Andrew Wyeth

I just read that Andrew Wyeth has passed away at 91. I've always liked his work and spent a summer in eastern PA where his presence was ubiquitous.

We've got this print hanging in the bedroom. Looks just like Jackie boy!

See ya!

What's funnier than the reaction to Bush's farewell revisionism last night, including Arianna's take, was that all of the cable news station couldn't wait to get back to the plane touchdown in the Hudson as soon as he was done jabbering at 8:15 last night.

W can't even out the door without being upstaged. He's a complete failure 'til the end.

And maybe, just maybe, this plane NOT crashing and killing everyone on board is an omen for better days ahead putting a nice coda on the days of the Chimp.

A boy can dream...

I failed to mention that the PGA Tour officially kicked off last week at Kapalua and that the Sony Open is starting today in Wailea.

I only bring this up as it's currently 4 freakin' degrees outside my door today and I'd rather be in Hawaii thanks very much.

That is all.

Freakshows

Max Blumenthal ferrets out more wackos who are "praying" for our new president. What a bunch of tools.

Of course since the Rep. from GA was spiritually influenced by pictured above Rollen Stewart, then there couldn't possibly be anything weird about him. Nope, nuthin' at all...

Party Hole

Hey! Does anybody want to buy me and the missus a plane ticket to NYC, some nice lodging and comp passes to go see Will Ferrell's show that opens next month?

No? Okay...well, I guess I'll have to make do with this video for now...

Kristol Meth

Bill Kristol really IS nuts if he thinks that Obama is going to seriously ponder the concern troll advice of Darth Cheney.

What a maroon.

Wow

A solid ten inches...

..that's what she said.

No seriously, we've gotten ten inches of snow out there since last evening and there is alleged to be another 5-7" more on the way. I was out there clearing the sidewalk and the driveway for over an hour and I've got an industrial stregth 9HP snow thrower.

Yikes.

White Line Fever

Since it's snowing this seemed to be an article apropos of today's frosty climate. And that fact that it's coming from a guy named Charles Blow makes it all the more hilarious.

I hate cocaine. It's the devil's playground. George Carlin once said that cocaine was God's way of telling you that you're making too much money. That said, it's curious that it's so popular with the youngsters.

Liam Lynch

Hey, it's snowing like a MoFo here this morning. Anybody else feel like Liam today?...yeah, I thought so.

Jersey Boys

Southside Johnny and Jukes LOVED comin' to Cleveland back in the day.

Kid Leo and WMMS always made any appearance by any and all of them a very big deal. Here they are with Little Steven and The Boss showing up unexpectedly from the world famous Cleveland Agora circa 1978.

Cruel Winter

I know that I often post a lot of junk out here but some of it has real meaning and depth. This Op-Ed from today's New York Times is such an animal.

A must read and a beautifully crafted bit of writing.

Say it ain't so, Joe!

Goodness knows Obama must be feeling this way by about now. What else could possibly unravel at this point?

Counter Point

Well, I found a nice rebuttal to my previous post. Go sign up and do something. I've signed up to donate blood at one of the numerous drives slated for the 19th.

Cougars and Bears

Craig ties the knot!

Wish List

Our less-than-two-weeks-away President Elect would do well to have a gander at the ideas espoused on the link to The World Question Center's website this day.

There appear to be some big ol' friggin' brains out yonder in this land.

I will show you these Stooges

Lance Mannion echos the sentiment of every American boy I know as it relates to the The Three Stooges. I must say though, I do know one woman who likes the Stooges and I happen to be lucky enough to be married to her.

Regardless, Lance ties his theme up nicely with some pithy observations of today's economic crises and its relation to the zeitgeist of Larry, Curly and Moe.

And for what it's worth, Shemp was always my personal favorite.

Krugman

Since everyone else in bloggytown is linking to this article, I may post it here as well.

In his first column of the New Year, the Shrill One lays out the philosophy that been ruining this Nation for nearly 30 years and, if I must say so myself, I've been de-crying for easily as long.

Bush is just the end result of the Atwater strategy. He's Dan Quayle writ large. He's the perfect faux poster boy for their wrong headed perversion of government. Don't blame him. Blame all of the Grover Norquists and Jack Abramoffs...they're the scoundrels. Bush is a patsy.

He just happened to be at the controls when the plan flew into the mountain.

RIP G.O.P. May you rest in turmoil.
