Faux News

I'm only posting this to point out not only the sophomoric production vales and overtly racist tone of the piece, but to state the obvious.

The recording of "I'm Sorry" that get played in the intro is not Patsy Cline, you's BRENDA LEE!!!

James Wolcott provides his slant on the Arlen Specter defection.

"The Branch Davidian compound of the Confederate Jesus". Hah.

Game 3

Just a taste.

The Shrill One speaks out.

Frankly, I've never understood the excuse that we're too busy on other important things at hand to investigate the reasons why we went to war in Iraq and the methods we used to extract information from these enemy combatants.

We're a nation of laws that is designed to be able to handle tasks of this scope simultaneously. let's act like it.

Mike Brown

We got the Coach of the Year. Now all we need is the ring to go with it...

Three little birds reminded me this morning that today is 4/20.

If perchance you're unaware, 420 has developed an interesting history over the past several years. Here's a comprehensive look at the formative influences of the holiday. Hence the video.

And, as luck would have it, it's also my good pal's birthday. Ladies and gents, here's to fellow librul blogger and all around stand up individual, Woody Guthrie's Guitar.

Jah Rastafari.

Talking Heads

Feeling a bit like this today, myself. I'm guessing that I saw the Heads at the Agora about a month before or after this aired on the Old Grey Whistle Test. They certainly were something.

Susan Boyle

The phenomenon continues to expand exponentially. Of course I remain somewhat unconvinced that Susan Boyle isn't in actuality, most excellent British actor, Jim Broadbent.

Personally, I've never seen them in the same place at the same time. You?

And for what it's worth, here's a really nice version of "Cry Me A River" Susan recorded several years ago for a local charity in Scotland.

The Cleve

If you lived'd be home by now.

A Testicus for the rest of us

Here's a link to my pal, Sinfonian. He gave a little speech at the Pensacola Tea-buggery fest yesterday. A brave individual indeed.

Sinfonian was the first person to ever blogroll me. Woo-Hoo!

Here's the speech from this morning.

I've been doing research on this stuff for years. Ever since I spent some time in Germany, I have looked at short hop HSR trips as being THE ANSWER to gas prices, plane congestion, cost reduction and efficiency to our regional travel woes.

Here are some web sites that I've become acquainted with over the past few years. Take a look and write a letter or go to a meeting. $8 Billion is a nice start, but this stuff is very expensive and the tea-baggers are certain to fight this at every turn just because it has the patina of "earmarks' and "pork". They're wrong.

Dave just sent me a link to some comments that Mr. Obama made today on High Speed Rail funding and I'll dig in and provide some links to that in a bit.

In the interim, a couple of sports updates:

The reeling Indians open the new Yankee Stadium in a couple of hours at 1:00. It's a duel of C.C. Sabathia and Cliff Lee. I'll be tuning in.

Secondly, the playoffs start for the Cavs on Saturday against the lowly Detroit Pistons.

Listen, I was always taught never to celebrate the injury of another team or player just because it helped my chosen team advance or win. That said, this is huge news for the Cavaliers...

There are several photo blogs of yesterday's Tea-Baggin' festivities. My favorite came from Ed over at

What is it with these Right Wingers that they appear incapable of spelling anything correctly?...

Tea Party

Bernie Horn is right! Glenn Beck DOES look like the white rabbit!

Lather, Rinse, Repeat

The howl that went up last week over "slashes" in the Pentagon budget were as predictable as an 18 foot LeBron jump shot hitting nuthin' but net.

Ken Silverstein explains exactly why that is...

Of course no one ever mentions that Camp Anaconda (the second busiest airport in the world) and the like are ever going to get scaled back, do they?

Yeah, I thought not...

As of Febuary 2006, Balad AB was home to about 30,000 U.S. troops.

The base is so large it has its own 'neighborhoods'. These include: 'KBR-land' (a Halliburton subsidiary company); 'CJSOTF' which is home to a special operations unit,' the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force and is surrounded by especially high walls that is, according to The Washington Post, so secretive that even the base Army public affairs chief has never been inside. There is a Subway sandwich shop, a Pizza Hut, a Popeye's, a 24-hour Burger King, two post exchanges which sell an impressive array of goods, four mess halls, a minature golf course and a hospital. The base has a strictly enforced on-base speed limit of 10 MPH.

Dynamite Ham

We had some folks over for dinner yesterday and my thoughts turned to this scene from Annie Hall. Dave and I have been laughing at this for over thirty years now.

Woody's Easter feast comes in at about 6:40 in the clip...

Ted Rall

I've entitled it, "Obama's Katrina". What do you all make of it?...

Manny being Manny

Keeping in line with our sports theme today, I found this out on the ESPN site. More like Manny being crazy.

Is he seriously going to take a pay cut of 75% to come back and play in Cleveland?

I think not.

The people's game

The Masters was won yesterday by Angel Cabrera. Instead of the usual monied, pampered and right wing automatons that frequently win such tourneys, this guy is from a different world.

Here's a rather lengthy and fascinating glimpse into the background of El Pato from a couple of years ago.

I get a bit worn out listening to Keith's rants sometimes, but his tribute to his mother last night was special. It hits just the right notes of funny, poignant and touching without a trace of maudlin.

I just saw this over at Watertiger's joint and HAD to post it as well. Glenn Beck has become something of a fascination of mine as late. His madness is positively spellbinding.

Stephen Colbert is amazing. Nobody does this brand of mocking satire any better than Colbert. Nobody.
